About Principal Erica Zigelman

New York City educator Erica Zigelman, Principal of Middle School 322 since 2005, has expertise in a number of areas, including staff development, mentoring, strategic planning, student assessments, and budgets. Her skills also extend to coordinating special events and extracurricular activities, solving conflicts, implementing standards-based curriculum, and assessing students. Earning tenure as a teacher for The New York City Department of Education, Erica Zigelman instructed students in public elementary and middle schools, including providing performing arts education. Knowledgeable in Spanish, the award-winning Principal communicates well and works effectively across all cultural and educational backgrounds.

Erica Zigelman also served as an Adjunct Professor at The College of Saint Rose and taught “Literacy and the Love of Words: Reading the Written Word” and “Techniques of Classroom Environment” at Mercy College as an Adjunct Professor. In addition, she acted as a mentor to teaching fellows and as a Literacy Coach for fifth and sixth grade literacy teachers. Chosen by The Wallace Foundation to participate in the prestigious Exemplary Principals Meeting, Zigelman earned selection in the 2010 Cohort Cahn Fellows Program for Distinguished Principals and as a LEAP Lead Mentor Principal. The Biltmore Who’s Who of Professionals listed the New York City education administrator as well.

A graduate of New York University, where she received a B.S. in Music Education and an M.A. in Interrelated Arts in Education, the middle-school Principal earned a professional diploma in school district administration from Iona College and educational leadership credits at Bank Street College of Education. In other education, Erica Zigelman has completed numerous training courses and maintains permanent New York State certificates in several disciplines, including performing arts, orchestral music, and school district administration. Zigelman remains current on education and related issues through memberships in professional organizations such as The New York Academy of Public Education, ASCD (the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development), and the Lower Hudson Council of Administrative Women in Education.
